The owner and founder of Karabole Tours & Safaris, Richard Torro, is a native Ugandan who is currently operating ecotours of popular national parks around the village of Fort Portal. Richard, a former primary school teacher, is a native of Ruteete Village in the Crater Lakes region of the Kabarole District.

The following is a testimonial from Richard on the driving forces behind his creation of this ecotourism organisation.

“Since my early childhood I always felt that I wanted to show other people new things, thus my joining the teaching profession. As I started taking tourists to villages, I realised [how much] the local people could gain from the travellers' knowledge. I realised that locals needed to be taught [why] conservation was so important as they actually had no idea that they were destroying [their environment]. Slowly Kabarole Tours has brought lots of positive change in peoples lives and we continue to do the best we can.”

Kabarole Tours and Safaris helps to educate people about the importance of nature conservation. The organisation also fosters community development by enabling projects to take form with the profits of the organisation.
